At least this time the Scotsman makes it clear, in the headline, that they are acting merely on behalf of the Tory press office. Usually, they bury the named Unionist politician several paragraphs in, where few of their readers tread or should that be read?
Today, we could read:
‘The comparison between the First Minister and Dr Richard Beeching, who axed railways in the 1960s, was made by Shadow Health Secretary Miles Briggs ahead of a visit to Orkney. Mr Briggs blamed the Scottish Government for a series of NHS cuts outside Scotland’s big cities in places like West Lothian, Perthshire and the Highlands.’
We do eventually get the SNP response, but nobody is reading now, apart from me:
‘But the SNP dismissed Mr Briggs’s remarks as “laughable” and pointed out that it was the Conservative party which established the Beeching Review that was to lead to the closure of many rural railways.’

Miles Briggs gets to say more stuff and, typically, its evidence-free, so here’s some evidence he could do with reading:
At 78% level of satisfaction with NHS Scotland is impressive 36% higher than for the NHS across UK
National auditors find two very different NHS systems in the UK. Someone tell Theresa today.

How many people under the age of 70 actually have any idea who Dr Beeching was?

Me!! My mum used to take me on the Duns to Waverley route back in the 50s well-armed with some prototype facewipes.

Mr Briggs makes this statement in ORKNEY, where there has never been a rail service.
No offence to Orcadians, but they probably think he is referring to Beecham’s powders, if they bother even to turn up and see this eejit..

Hopefully, Nicola will schedule our amputation from the UK sometime soon. Patient satisfaction will be high. Life expectancy and quality of life will be considerably enhanced.

Will Miles Briggs still be on the comedy circuit when Edinburgh Festival is over? He really needs to work on that routine.

So Mr Briggs is going to Orkney and ahead of his visit criticises the Scottish Government’s record on the NHS. That would be the same Orkney where, thanks to the SG, a new hospital is being built that will bring together on one site the various departments currently in various locations in Kirkwall. Moreover, the hospital due for completion in 2019, has already won awards:
“”NHS Orkney’s new healthcare facility has been hailed as among the world’s best at a leading award ceremony.
The Balfour, as the facility will be known when it opens in 2019, has won silver in the best healthcare project category at the Partnership Awards in London.
There were six finalists from all over the world with the Orkney facility pipped to the post by the Gaziantep IHC PPP Project, Turkey.””

If Scotland legalised cannabis for medicinal use, the NHS would be even cheaper, the waiting lists even shorter and the people much healthier. Cannabinoids are the perfect natural remedy for many ailments, including Crohn’s disease, diabetes and cancer and is a very effective pain killer.
