Back in August, I was able to report that Scotrail was performing significantly better, at 90.5%, than the England & Wales average of 87.9% punctuality. See:

Since then, Scotrail have pulled away, steamed ahead even, (nice metaphors?) further. See this from Transport Network figures yesterday:
‘The moving annual average (MAA) of the official Public Performance Measure (PPM) at the end of June was 88%, according to the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), meaning that 12% of trains were late. This was a slight improvement on the annual PPM to the end of April (87.7%), which was the lowest annual score recorded since 2005-06.’

So that’s an improvement of 0.3%. See this from Scotrail reported in the Insider business magazine, also yesterday:
‘The four-week rolling figure of 94.1% is up more than three percentage points on last year – and is the best four-week performance since May 2015, the company said. Bottom of FormTop of Form Bottom of Form
ScotRail reports it achieved its best punctuality performance in more than two years with 94.1 per cent on trains running on time in the four weeks to 16 September. The four-week rolling figure, up more than three percentage points on last year, was the best four-week performance since May 2015, ScotRail said. The moving average performance in the last 12 months now stands at 91.2 per cent of trains on time, up 1.6 per cent on last year and meeting the regulatory target of 90.3 per cent.’
So Scotrail is improving ten times faster than England & Wales rail services. I don’t/can’t watch Revolting Scotland. Did they report in these terms? Has Ruth Davidson sent her regards to Hamsa? I take it he can keep his job now?

Talking-up Scotland 
More good news Professor John. The rail network in Scotland although comparatively small has it’s own problems in terrain, climate, track ownership and rolling stock. ( Nice to see 1960s Deltics smoking their way up the West Highland line though.)
Having spent most of my working life in industrial maintenance / automation I can’t help but wonder if full electrification of the network on independence should be a worthwhile project.

There is nothing on the BBC Scotland website, so are you telling us the truth?????!!!
They have managed to report on a problem with a barrier on the A9 which has caused a delay in opening a section of the refurbished road.
I take it that you mean “Anas” as in Sarwar and not ‘Anwar’ as in ‘Aamer’, whom I am sure will be pretty pleased with the Scotrail data.

Hi John et al – There’s FAKE NEWS all over this site – John manages to mix up a name!! – then – Alasdair is claiming that the barrier replacement (on safety grounds) resulted in a delay “..in opening a section of the refurbished road”. Alasdair could apply for a job with beeb Jockland with quotes like this!! – Keith Brown was very careful to point out to Gary on radio this morning that the ‘road’ did, in fact, open as planned – however, it couldn’t operate as dual carriageway until the barrier replacement was effected.There is a difference between those 2 statements – but msm want us not to notice it.
See how easy it is for us all to fall into beeb Jockland terminology – even hardened experts like the readers of this site (myself included) can get ‘catch’d’ in their web!!! – Cheers, ludo

Now – I don’t know about anyone else – but I seem to recall that Nicol Stephen was an elected MSP, held office in a coalition Lab-Lib Scottish ‘executive’ as a Junior Minister, as a cabinet member, and – finally – as Depute First Minister. Would have thought that lot might have been worth a mention alongside his brief sojourn in Westminster? (and failed candidacies for Westminster)!
Curious that the Baron Stephen seems to have forgotten his entire period in the Scottish Parliament from his Lords’ bio info – a bit seriously odd that – isn’t it?

Hi John – since I’m on the topic of memory…
You commented the other day regarding Richard Leonard’s “..flared nostrils..” and that set me thinking that his face did remind me of someone.
Today it came to me – surely he’s a dead ringer for the late, great comedy actor Kenneth Williams? (Curiously Kenneth Williams was also a frothing mouthed BritNat apologist – remember his ‘debate’ with Jimmie Reid?)
Anyway – if I’m correct about the Kenneth William’s look-alike quality then, perhaps, we can look forward to a major motion picture starring Richard Leonard (as Kenneth Williams) and Jackie Baillie (as Hattie Jacques) in ‘Carry On Sub-Branch Managing..” (ooh-er missus – you’ll never credit the size of ‘is Faslane – talk about WMDs!!).
