In the regular Scottish insert part of BBC Breakfast this morning at 06:26am, we heard this scary headline:
‘The number of potential victims of trafficking and modern slavery in Scotland has gone by more than 50% in two years. Figures released by the UK crime agency show around a third were children. 228 cases were reported to police Scotland last year.’
Wait a minute, didn’t they report that only a few weeks ago? They did:
Are they trying to scare my mum?
So, did they report the 2017 figures really late or are we getting the 2018 ones really quickly?
I see there was dramatic 42% increase from 2016, but only a 7% increase from 2017 to 2018. Could that be good news? Ah, not so newsworthy?
As always, BBC Scotland News came context-free, so I checked out their sources and found this:
So, people trafficking is 28 times more common in England than it is in Scotland and the trafficking of children is 51 times more common. England has only 10 times the population.
Talking-up Scotland 
BBC Scotland reports without context, perspective and gives the appearance of partiality.
It lacks truth and accuracy.
It does not identify sources.
It lacks fairness and impartiality.
It does not appear independent of bias in favour of acting on behalf of special interests (political, cultural or corporate).
It lacks human empathy, and reports on individual, specific cases as though they were the norm—“hard cases make bad law”.
It lacks accountability. The BBC is more secretive than the Kremlin, when the public should have access to its decision-making, and be able to challenge those decisions.
Scotland undoubtedly suffers poor funding (per capita), cultural oppression (lack of programming about our different history, politics, sports, culture and society) and unfair bias against hiring/commissioning Scots.

It is exactly the same when the BBC ‘investigate’ issues that affect mostly England. Recent Panorama doc on Landlords abusing their power. They never at any time make any distinction south and north of the border. All designed to muddy the waters and spread fear and anxiety wherever you live. Utterly disgraceful. They would not be able to continue to operate like this is in an Independent Scotland.

Well said Gavin re the BBC – did you see them harassing Bercow on his way to work? They are nasty little lackeys – Scotland really is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to broadcasting, the classic catch-22, can’t get independence because they (the broadcasters) act against our best interests, but can’t change it until we get independence. We need to start carpet bombing Scotland with zillions and zillions of pamphlets, leaflets and other independence worthy reading materials (in large print). If someone does that for me, I hereby pledge to be on permanent community litter-picking duty for the rest of my life in the event that Scotland rightfully becomes an independent nation again. (If we don’t, I will leave the leaflets to rot and I hope they clog up all the sewers and we are forever awash with our own stinking sewage, forever).
