‘Under budget’. There’s a phrase you rarely hear so it’s impressive when you do hear it. Does the Scottish government get any credit for this? Some, surely? If it had come in over budget we’d never have heard the end of it. All the costs associated with the ‘over-run’ in the completion date will have to be met by the contractor – ‘Scottish Government fails to mess-up contract’?
The new crossing is expected to last for well over 100 years and to bring many economic benefits with it including: ‘a stream of new business looking to acquire land and property in the surrounding areas. It will also help advance tourism opportunities.’

I don’t suppose ‘I’m John McKay’ will have precious much to say about this. Or, Revolting Scotland, or the 4th estate, or…..

That’s what I’ve heard. Johann Lamont’s conceptualisation. Eck half inched it and Nicola gets aw the points.

The british establishment are set to take this over and turn it into a union flag waving GSTQ event. They will do their best to airbrush the SNP out of the picture and deny them the credit they are due for a fabulous and much needed bridge.

Critics say bridge builders to be unemployed for 150 years.
btw Broon is getting to make an intervenshun on Radio 4 as he lives “in the shadow of the bridges”. He’ll either take the credit or complain that it spoils the view from his conservatory. Either way, I’ll be washing my hair when it’s on.

I’d be cautious about this fellow. A die-hard GERS-denier and BBC conspiratorialist, his writing is based on the latest SNP wheeze – that criticising the SNP and the SG equates to ‘talking Scotland down’. Opponents of nationalism and the SNP are, generally, very fond of Scotland, and think it’s a rather wonderful place. While not questioning the integrity of a chair in media studies at the University of West of Scotland, I’m more inclined to believe the Nobel prize winners, heads of research councils and chief scientists who highlighted the devastating impact independence would have had on Scotland’s universities. You may find the following a bit more edifying:

David,
I’ll just deal with the conspiratorial bit because its a common misunderstanding. I’ve never ever suggested one. You don’t need one in western liberal democracies just the interlocking of elites. Look up Noam Chomsky on how this works. Also see bottom of page 41 top of 42 in this:

Maybe even read all of Chapter 5 too?

Well, I certainly can’t help with the snappy headlines. But it’s a very pertinent subject, has a lot of interest for people, most folks seem to be very positive about the new crossing, everyone is chatting about it, and the much awaited opening, and also maybe it helps if wings retweets a tweet with the link? https://mobile.twitter.com/SandPatterson/status/901794219471360000
Dunno, is my answer to your why? Folks are contrary, and never do what you expect,,,

If its that much under budget, did they leave some bits out? Better check the meccano box to see if there’s any pieces they forgot.
