Paranoid? If so, with very good reason no doubt! I speak as someone who spent 30 years in academe and can testify to the vicious, cowardly pusillanimity that characterises many of the self-inflated in the ‘upper echelons’.
Tonpans Press proprietor? Possibly one Philip Beggs. J.Cope & Co. would have been a rival firm that constantly missed its publication dates and, indeed, succeeded in losing all its drafts.
