The first and funniest question in the huge FoI request today is this one:
Q1: A list of all complaints made to the office of the First Minister concerning the conduct of MSPs under the whip of the Scottish National Party or Scottish ministers (and if the information is available, what steps were taken to resolve the issue) – please note, issues could also include allegations of sexual harassment.
Equally entertaining is the response:
QI: Please note that any complaints regarding an MSP is a matter for the Presiding Officer to investigate under section 8 of the code of conduct. Section 8 of the Code of Conduct.

This is only part of a comically humungous FoI request trying to find anything at all that could be bad news for the SNP or any part of it, made by, I’m guessing, BBC Scotland or the North Britain branches of Labour, Tories or LibDems, or any ‘Scottish’ newspaper or Scotland in Union or whatever they’re called. So, as numerous Tory politicians are exposed for crimes as serious as child rape, someone is desperately groping for something anything on the SNP. If there’s anything on the other parties, they don’t want to know, thank you very much.We await with interest the Presiding Officer’s response. Anyone think he is sitting on complaints about SNP MSPs?

Goodness – One can see the concerted efforts of the britnat state (and quasi-state) apparatus at play in full glowing Technicolour currently can’t we? Scotland needs to keep calm and focussed – things are taking interesting turns on the route to Indy. I noticed a catchphrase from a poster called Shinty across on Wings that has real merit for everyone right now “Don’t get angry – get Indy” (paraphrasing Joe Kennedy I believe).

Aside from all the buzz today – I can’t seem to find out what’s happening on the ‘doo-poo’ front. Something so serious as to lead the headline news for three or four days cannot just have disappeared. Can it?????

They have moved on to the possibility of superbug epidemics now, William, possibly in anticipation of John’s complaint about their outright lying. Interesting how that sensational non-story should just be dropped – BBC are charlatans? Or maybe they found out the reason for the spread was due to doo-poo on the shoes of a visiting Tory politician?
Has anyone sent a FoI request to Westminster to find out what happened to the paedophile ring dossier, or why the investigation has completely stalled under May’s leadership (as Home Secretary and as PM)? Amazing how she has retained her positions after proving time and time again her intransigent incompetance. Probably still in power because she’s not a feminist and so can take the moral high ground.
Anyway, I have just watched this discussion looking at some of the whys behind the Brexit vote, only half an hour (though ends a bit abruptly), it’s good,
I found it very insightful. I have half formed ideas, on how such a rich and vibrant, culturally and economically and environmentally, country such as England can develop the need to feel oppressed by Europe – and I feel some of it could be to do with the strange conflation of identity in being British – English, and not knowing the difference. That is, most English people seem to use the terms interchangeably, without realising it, and I just can’t figure out what is so terrible about being English that people need to dilute it so much. Maybe England needs to split into regions? I am sure the more local identity is more certain – that is, if you were discussing how you were a Geordie, you would not interchange that with being British,,, maybe! Half formed as I said. They didn’t explicitly touch on that subject in the discussion, but it does explain – for me anyway – some of the motivations behind Brexit – (and a bit on why they were different in Scotland). I quite like the expressed concept that people in England were somehow voting for the B in Great Britain rather than the B in Brexit, because the rather fragile identity of Great Britain is constantly under threat from Europe – because it’s not a real identity in the way that English, Scottish, Welsh,Irish ARE real identities that (perhaps) could flourish together in Europe.
If around half the English can express that same thought, then with one bound, we can be Scot Free!

Also, if they can understand that the chaotic unfocused ragged constitutional set up of the uk and Westminster is nothing to be be admired – I think recognising where the feeling of threat comes from is important. Even if that feeling has been whipped up by relentless anti Europe propaganda over the decades, I think many people would be helped by understanding why that propaganda appeals to them.
Stating clearly that there is always going to be a clash, constitutionally, between the uk an the EU because the EU functions in a structured way, while the uk is a mess of cobbled together fluff (I am not sure ‘functions’ is a good word to use here). I think a huge chunk of us in Scotland already know that Westminster and the electoral system needs overhauled – maybe a bigger chunk of the English electorate know it too now?
