We’ve already seen the linked indicators of increasing health in the Scottish economy in demand for office and industrial space, in business confidence, in increased employment and in increased starting salaries:
Scottish businesses showing signs of greater health than those in the rest of the UK
Predictably, house prices are starting to rise at a faster rate than in England and Wales too. According to Your Move and reported in the Insider, prices went up 4.6% in the last year, in Scotland, as opposed to only 3.3% in England and Wales. Bear in mind the English figures include the still booming South-East of England.

Prof John (ok to call you that?) Thanks for this. Helps me settle an “argument” with a unionist friend who claims LBTT killed off the housing market in Scotland.
And now that the Indyref2.scot site is doing a neat forensic analysis of Rep Scotland (like wot you did all those years ago), online media seems all the more focused.

Just John will do. I require the Prof from Unionists only

Why is the Fiscal Studies report piece getting no comments at all?

I liked when Unionist politicians had to call me professor but otherwise its a bit daft innit?

Dunno there’s a mysticism (in Yes circles) attached to . . . “the Rev. “. Prof’s the same . . . Spouse you’ve got to want to be a mystic.
No reason for no comments on Ifs report. . . It’s Sunday . . . Chill

Good news for homeowners!!!
Careful now Professor John, you’re beginning to sound like the dreaded BBC.

I know but it’s still evidence of the growing economy I assume the BBC are not trumpeting?

Ahh, I see, extra effort was put into the fiscal studies article, so now we have to comment on it? Personally, I’m not feeling very rich, so even though it’s general fiscally good news for Scotland, my own average earnings haven’t increased so I don’t want to comment – I think I’d be more pleased to hear that the pay gap was a lot less here, after all, average wages can increase because of more outrageously overpaid high earners hanging around – which is likely the case in the south of England. A bit like house prices rising – good for the economy but not for me personally. Difficult to keep that positive.
I think Clydebuilt is being stubborn too, John, you might have to accept some references to being Prof after all – you did earn it, reaching the heady heights of academic work, so, retired or not, you have every right to the title. Whether you WANT it or not is another matter! And I do hope your technical expertise assistant returns soon 🙂 .
(Spouse=s’pose, but that was a nice bit of word association)

Contrary. . . . Don’t feel I’m being stubborn . . . Absolutely it’s up to John and how (this recognition) sits with him. . . . Just trying to get John to realise he could be “The Prof.” of the Yes movement. . . . . (Earned it through the copious research required daily to produce this blog )
As a sage from the 1970’s would surely have said . . . ” the Prof. Of the Yes movement is something to be”

Not at all stubborn, I apologised in the IFS report article for even suggesting such a thing; I had been eagerly awaiting your comment there for at least 3 hours when I made that terrible mistake, meanwhile you’d written an erudite and detailed comment, so I felt suitably chagrined, and even indulged in copious commenting myself, after also realising that my first impression of the article was a bit fleeting and assumption-laden.
I HAD kind of hoped for a bit back-patting appreciation for making the comments on the IFS article,,, but that’s just my ego demanding attention, and maybe pushing it a bit. Anyway, being stubborn can be a good thing! 🙂
